Spiders, Heights and Presenting... Time to Face my Fears

Although spiders and heights are higher on my list of fears, presenting comes in close. Ever since a young age I have found it difficult to speak to a group of people whether it be just a general conversation or in an educational setting. I think it stems from my anxiety and the fear of having people judge and laugh at me but this year I will have to put that aside and present my ideas for Design Management.

I think one presentation isn't too bad and I'll be able to get through it but no, this module has 2... yes 2. Brace yourself Abbie, you got this girl.

Breakdown of Design Management;

Brief 1 - Business Plan

For the business plan we have to state the; product or service, target market, demand, potential competitors, financial planning, marketing, sustainability, loans/grants or bursaries available. Each person in the group will be given a specific thing to look into and mine is the finance side which I'm looking forward to. It will not be graded on the design, only graded on whether it is clear and informative.

Brief 2 - Brand Guidelines

This is the design part of the module which is exciting. Here are the things I will have to include in my brand guidelines; Logo that is clean and suitable for the brand, typeface that is legible and appropriate for its use, image style that creates a good impression, tone of voice that is professional yet welcoming, merchandise/uniform, launch materials that will help promote and market the business and finally social media that will reflect the service in a good light while also being free promotion.

If I want to become a designer then presenting is going to be a big part of the role so better to make a start and learn how to do it correctly now than when I'm in the industry.

This is a 20 credit module that will be all done online which will be strange at first but I'm excited to see how it goes and it may also make the aspect of presenting a little easier by doing it in the comfort of my own home.

Looking into the business plan and what it contains will be exciting as I have never went into that much depth before but I do think it will involve a lot of research and brain power so I am glad we get to work as a team. The first part of this module will be more research based so I'm sure I will be excited to make a start on the brand design and see where I can take it visually.
